Rainbow Power Youth Council
In September 2017 we launched our first ever youth council. Six young people successfully applied to represent their peers for the 2017-18 academic year and ensure we had a strong youth voice.
Members met termly and have been involved in shaping our strategic approach and delivery.
Rainbow Power reps have assisted with promotional activities across Wandsworth Borough, in order to help raise the profile of The Gap youth club, Free2talk mentoring service, Proud Parents group and our Family Fun Days. They have also supported us at events, most recently at our stall with Battersea Sport in the Park!
They have been ambassadors at The Gap youth club each week, welcoming new members and encouraging participation in activities.
Reps attended our Directors meeting in January 2018 and provided invaluable input into our service delivery discussion with a number of their suggestions now in place, including pronoun labels at The Gap youth club.
Rainbow Power also worked alongside the borough-wide youth council to improve the reception area of the local CAMHS service. They visited CAMHS on several occasions and provided feedback on ways to ensure the building was more welcoming to LGBTQ+ young people.
